Why ESG Matters
We envision a world where solar panels on retail rooftops are the norm, our operations achieve zero waste and are fully powered by renewable energy, and our communities are actively engaged in initiatives like urban beekeeping and local farmers’ markets. Our goal is to create a future where every ShopCore team members see themselves represented in our leadership, our buildings contribute to public health and well-being, and we help CoreGiving achieve its mission of eliminating child hunger in the U.S.
When it comes to ESG, we strive to lead by example — excelling not only in our property operations but also in uplifting our people and communities. We’re committed to pioneering a carbon-neutral future in retail real estate. We understand that this mission requires collaboration, and we’re excited to partner with our stakeholders and peers to unlock new possibilities in the retail world.

We are open to opportunities to give back and strengthen the communities our shopping centers serve. Partnering with our fellow portfolio companies, we support CoreGiving, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in the United States.
We host charitable events at our properties, such as book swaps and school supply drives, and use our spaces to empower small and local businesses with growth opportunities. Additionally, we are developing a procurement process and supplier database to prioritize working with companies that value diversity, opportunity, and sustainability.

At ShopCore, we are open to opportunities to align our governance with international market standards, ensuring global competitiveness and high transparency in reporting. We are dedicated to measuring, tracking, and reporting our environmental footprint, from carbon emissions and energy usage to waste generation and water consumption, as well as our social initiatives, including DEI progress and philanthropic activities.
In 2021, we completed our first third-party assured greenhouse gas emissions inventory for scopes 1, 2, and 3; published our inaugural TCFD- and GRI-compliant ESG report; submitted our first response to CDP; met all benchmarking and reporting requirements; and linked sustainability KPIs to employee bonuses.
Continuing this commitment in 2022, we established our first ESG Steering Committee. This committee unites ShopCore team leads and primary internal ESG stakeholders to build consensus on high-level ESG strategies and goals, make informed decisions, and execute our plans effectively, efficiently, and cohesively.
